Here it is, the week of thanksgiving! Bring on the appetizers, main dishes, desserts and then – second breakfast! We’re ready! Then as usual, we all talk about what we’ve been up to when Gramma asks, Uncle Jeb lies motionless on the sofa with a “I’m-so-stuffed-but-will-eat-more-soon” look on his sleeping face. Children (countless children…) all run around either getting into grammas things, fighting with each other or running in and out of the house when they know beyond a shadow that the outside in not included in the ‘heated/cooled sq footage’ of grammas house and she’s about to go all Bruce Campbell on EVERYONE! Ah! – getting together for Thanksgiving can be an experience!
We all can design a life of thankfulness! Like anything worth learning, it takes practice and persistence. We have the power to look at our current life situation and decide to give thanks in it, or not. Believe me its not easy but the emotional benefits alone are outstanding! Give thanks in everything for one day. See how you feel!
Thanksgiving with the mouth stirs up thankfulness in the heart (John Piper)
1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
